Escanaba Kiwanis Club hosts 2023 Home & Garden Show

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The 2023 Kiwanis Home & Garden Show began on Friday in the Ruth Butler Building at the UP State Fairgrounds.

The show has been an Escanaba tradition since the late 1970s.

“We have all sorts of home and garden products, ideas, remodeling things, and just beautiful things to purchase for your home,” said Home & Garden Show chair Patricia Rudden. “We also have the MSU Extension Master Gardeners in, and we have lots of kids’ activities.”

More than 50 vendors are part of this year’s show. They say it is a great opportunity to reach new customers and to see what other vendors have to offer.

“It really saves a lot of time and a lot of money, if you will, traveling around to research and do your homework on all the different vendors,” said American Metal Roofs president Ray Farmer. “Here you can meet and talk with everyone.”

“It lets people know who we are, where we are, and what we have,” said Dale Vincent, owner of UP North Treasures. “It helps the Kiwanis, so it’s a good thing and it’s a good show.”

The Kiwanis Club is also hosting its famous pancake breakfast.

“It’s sort of an annual event for Escanaba to come and eat pancakes with the Escanaba Kiwanis Club,” Rudden said. “We’ve been doing it since 1957.”

Funds from the breakfast sale will go toward community projects for children. This year, the Kiwanis Club is focusing on playgrounds.

Rudden says all of it is possible thanks to the public’s continued generosity.

“When you get to do something that’s over 40 years old, it’s pretty exciting,” she said. “The community really rallies around us and gives us great support.”

The 2023 Kiwanis Home & Garden Show continues on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, and sausage will be available until 2:00 p.m. both days. The meal is $9 for those 13 and older, $6 for those ages 6 – 12, and free for kids under 5.
