ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE: One person was arrested for malicious destruction of property at the Escanaba Walmart at approximately 4:05 Friday afternoon. The subject was arraigned on April 17. His next court date will be April 27.
The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched to Walmart for a subject damaging property with hammers. Once on the scene, officers encountered the subject, who was actively damaging property inside the store.
The subject was taken into custody. Charges are being submitted for review with the Delta County Prosecutor’s office.
Walmart evacuated the store, and will remain closed until further notice.
Escanaba Department of Public Safety was assisted by the Delta County Central Dispatch and Rampart EMS.
Escanaba Walmart posted on its Facebook page that it will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday, April 15.

Escanaba’s Walmart is closed until further notice, while police investigate an alleged incident.
Few details are known at this time, but an Escanaba Public Safety operator told WZMQ that police are still on the scene.
Escanaba Walmart posted on Facebook at 4:34 p.m. Friday, “Sorry about the inconvenience… your local Escanaba Walmart will be closed until further notice.”
