Officials from the U.P.’s Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week to commemorate the Sault Ste. Marie community-based outpatient clinic’s move to a new location right off of the I-75 Business Spur. The clinic, which currently serves around 1400 veterans, is now in a location that is three times larger than the old facility and has larger, wider hallways and more rooms.
According to Public Affairs Specialist, Robert Wollenberg, the move will improve overall access and patient experiences for the veterans who are served there. “This was a really big move. It involved a lot of people, a lot of moving parts to get this done,” commented Wollenberg.
The clinic’s telephone number will remain the same, but the facility expects to be able to serve even more veterans with the new location.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony attendees included the Eastern Clinic’s Coordinator Dustin Brewster, the Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center’s Director, Doctor John Shealey, and Registered Nurse Jennifer Hilgendorf. The move to the new location is expected to usher in a new era of improved care and support for veterans in the Sault Ste. Marie area.
