WASHINGTON, D.C. – Michigan Senator Gary Peters (D- MI) is rated as the number one most effective democratic US Senator.
According to the Center for Effective Lawmaking, they base these rankings off the bills that each member of congress sponsors, how far those bills move through the lawmaking process and how substantial their policy proposals are. We asked Senator Peters himself why he’s been given the top spot:
“I believe the best solutions are the ones we make together,” said the Senator. “Finding common ground between democrats and republicans, solve problems we know we face. Let’s try to take off our partisan blinders and as a democrat I seek out republicans to join me to pass legislation and as a result of that, we’ve been able to pass more legislation than any other member in the United States Senate.”
According to the Center for Effective Lawmaking, last congress Peters introduced 102 bills. Most of which dealt with matters directly related to government operations and emergency management. 19 of those bills ultimately became law. According to the Center for effective Lawmaking, Peters has had at least one republican cosponsor on each of his successful bills.
