GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Gwinn Area Community Schools are looking to fill two positions on its board of education
The positions are open following the resignation of board Vice President, Dawn Andrews, and Trustee, Mary Jo Paris-Johns in late February. According to Brandon Bruce, Gwinn’s superintendent, the school board plays an important part in selecting things for the district like the curriculum.
“You have to be versed with a lot that goes on in the school district,” remarked Bruce, he went on to say “we have great people that are committed to do that, they want to bring the energy that it takes to run a district and maintain a good educational facility.”
The board of education was originally scheduled to announce the new members at their meeting scheduled for next monday. But Gwinn has received so many applications they have decided to hold a special meeting later next week so they have time to interview each candidate thoroughly.
“What that will allow is the board to spend the time necessary to interview, ask the right questions, and find out what that person brings to the table,” Bruce said.
In order to join the school board you must live in the Gwinn Area Community School district. applications to join the board are due this March 17th.
To apply you can submit a letter of interest to Superintendent Brandon Bruce via US mail (50 West M-35, PO Box 447, Gwinn, MI 49841) or via email (brandon.bruce@gwinnschools.org).
