ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A GoFundMe page for the children whose parents died in a car crash is almost at its $100,000 goal.

A GoFundMe for the Weaver children is nearing its $100,000 goal.

According to the GoFundMe page, Jerry and Tara Weaver were killed in a car crash on US-2 in Delta County last week while they were on their way to watch their son Lukas play basketball.

Since then, Upper Peninsula communities have rallied behind the three Weaver children, Noah, Lukas, and Sophia. Many U.P. schools collected raffles for the Weavers and encouraged “orange outs” at athletics games, showing support for the Weavers by wearing Escanaba Eskymos colors.

As of 10 p.m. Monday, the GoFundMe page surpassed $73,000 in donations.

Escanaba Area Public Schools posted on Facebook that school will be canceled Friday, Feb. 3 to allow staff and students to attend funeral services.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, Drifter’s Family Restaurant in Escanaba will be donating all proceeds between 2 p.m. at 8 p.m. to the Weaver family.
