KEWEENAW, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau elected a new position. Earlier this month Visit Keweenaw’s Executive Director, Brad Barnett, was elected to the board by voting members.
According to data provided by the state, in 2021, around $100 million dollars was spent on tourism in Houghton and Keweenaw County.
The visitor economy in Michigan is a big part of the growth of local businesses in his new role, Barnett notes it will help him boost Keweenaws influence on the Michigan tourist industry. “It’s really advocating for rural places like the Keweenaw and the importance of the visitor economy and sharing that with our legislatures our elected officials and pardon upon them on how this really helps with economic development and why it’s important for the community”, said Barnett.
