HANCOCK, Mich. (WZMQ) – Get ready Copper Country! The winter Celebrations have just gotten started. Earlier on Friday, family and friends were testing out the sleds on Finlandia’s Quincy Green as they prepared for the Heikinpaiva Celebration.
The celebration will feature toris, or markets, to shop at. It will also have the community parade downtown in Hancock starting at 11 a.m.
Visit Keweenaw, which helps organize Heikinpaiva, said you won’t want to miss any of the events Saturday, especially the parade.
“I think that’s the big draw of the event, especially cause it’s literally a parade so it’s definitely going to be the big draw, and those tori markets of course getting out, buying some local gifts, you know it’s not Christmas anymore but people still like to get out and shop so you’ll be able to see those locals vendors all day,” said Jesse Wiederhold, public relations for Visit Keweenaw.
The Polar Bear Plunge was canceled this year; however, there will be kicksleds, a wife-carrying contest, and dancing on the Quincy Green after the parade.
