GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Forsyth Township Public Library will host their free ‘Winter Salad Bowl‘ workshop on Monday, Jan. 9 to teach community members how to grow indoor plants during the winter.
“So many people have wanted to get into growing their own food for food security and it’s brought so many new people to the library,” Leslie Makela, director of the FTPL, said. “We’ve seen new faces and made new library cards because of it, so it’s a great way to reach out to the community.”
The workshop is open to all and will run from 5:30-7:00 p.m. with materials for learning how to grow indoors included. Materials include seed packets, growing container, soil and a special organic nutrient mix for the soil.
“It’s wonderful to see people excited about growing their own food and learning how to have sustainable living in their own homes and in their own yards,” Makela said.
The seed library first opened in April of 2022 and has had over 200 people using the services during the growing season.
