MARQUETTE, Mich (WZMQ) – Around the U.P., with the snow starting to pile on, sometimes we are more tempted to stay inside.
Lots of places in the U.P. support this outdoor culture of hiking, skiing, and even dog sled races with the U.P. 200 just around the corner. While heading into the long winter, the Upper Peninsula also has a variety of trails to bike through.
Now, with electric bikes and fat-tire bikes hitting the snow, the trails can be properly explored. “It’s a different world out there when you’re looking at pine trees covered in snow and every crunch with every step is just a new noise you’ve never heard and it’s amazing”, said Bates.
Electric bikes run on battery power and now that we’ve entered the cold months, Bate Bikes says these temperatures closer to 10 degrees can be damaging to the longevity of the battery. Storing them at around 55 degrees is best for keeping them in use.
For a lot of bikers, switching up your riding style is just what they’re looking for. These dials on the front forks of these bikes help adjust the PSI, they also have bikes with shock adjustment, making for a variety of riding styles available. Jacob Douglas, manager at Lakeshore bikes says the shop always gives the community a chance to explore the U.P.
“Fat tire E-Bikes, they have a larger volume tire it’s gonna give them more flotation not only in snow but also in the summertime like if you road in loser conditions like sand. That larger volume tire is just gonna float you better in those types of rides essentially”, said Douglas.
Lakeshore bikes say their experience with the outdoors is nothing short of thrilling, with the number of big tire bikes they have, they say that exploring the upper peninsula has been an opportunity of a lifetime.
