MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Tonight from 5-8 p.m. at participating locations, members from the Marquette Fire Department and Police Department competed in the annual friendly bell-ringing competition to raise funds for The Salvation Army.
“We’re out here ringing the bell with The Salvation Army and we’ve got a healthy competition between the fire department and the police department,” Brandon Morey, firefighter paramedic for the City of Marquette, said. “It’s just a unique way for us to partner with our community and give back.”
Last year the police department won between the two, this year Morey hopes that the fire department will collect more donations.
“My favorite part is just talking to different people as they come,” Ryan Grim, chief of police for the City of Marquette, said. “They kinda help us out and I try to talk them into donating to my side versus the fire, so again it’s kind of a friendly competition.”
