The Center for Native American Studies is reaching out for donations. With exams starting next week, the office is hoping to stock up on its main medicinal plants for cleansing.
Cedar, medicinal tobacco, sweetgrass, and sage are the four main medical plants used by the Anishinaabe.
These plants are burned and used for smudging, a cleansing ritual used commonly to get rid of negative energy.
April Lindala, a professor of Native American Studies at NMU said that “At this time in the semester when its the end of the year, and there’s finals and there’s papers, and there’s projects. There’s a lot of stress on the shoulders of students and so we decided to put this call out.”
The Center is still taking donations, to give to the office you can contact April Lindala at ALindala@nmu.edu or visit The Center for Native American Studies
