Over the weekend, students from across The UP traveled to Bark River Harris schools for a little friendly competition. The UP Quiz Bowl brought 100 middle school students together to compete in the knowledge showcase.
Lacey Stemick, Zoey Jorasz, and Makayla Hyslop we’re all in Miss. Madelinski’s 5th grade class at Bark River-Harris. As one of the two quiz bowl coaches, Anne Madalinski shared her love of trivia with her students, and when it came time for the three girls to move up to middle school, they all knew exactly which after school activity they wanted to join.
Every week since the school year began, the girls, along with the rest of their quiz bowl team, have met after school to learn their facts and practice for their quiz bowl competitions.
The girls joined the team when they started 7th grade, they said they were so excited when Miss. Madalinski was looking for more students to join the team.
For years, Bark River Harris has hosted this competitions, giving UP middle schoolers a place to meet other kids who love learning just as much as they do.
Even though they didn’t take home first place in the tournament this weekend, the girls still said they loved competing. for Lacy and Zoey, this is their last junior high quiz bowl competition, but Connie Wells says they’re already getting ready for their high school quiz bowl team.
