Two passengers are dead following a fiery crash in Chassell Township, Houghton County, early Friday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.
It was reported at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Chassell Painesdale Rd. around 2:20 a.m.
Deputies determined the vehicle was heading westbound on Chassell Painesdale Rd. when it drove through the intersection of U.S. 41 without stopping and ended up in a wooded area, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver – a 34-year-old Covington man – was taken to Portage Health for treatment.
A 35-year-old Covington woman who was a passenger in the same vehicle also went to Portage Health where she died.
A second passenger, identified as a 30-year-old Chassell woman, was declared dead at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, according to investigators.
There’s no word on the identities of the victims or charges.
