NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ)- Negaunee High School confirmed a student died in an early morning crash Friday in Negaunee.

The driver and passenger of a car were seriously injured in a crash with a logging truck in Negaunee early Friday morning, according to police.

It happened at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Teal Lake Ave. around 5:30 a.m.

A black Subaru Impreza was heading north on Teal Lake Ave. when police said the driver failed to stop at the flashing red light at the intersection.

A logging truck was heading east on U.S. 41 at the time and hit the car, according to police.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to UPHS Marquette.

The 27-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the semi was not injured.

The Negaunee School District has confirmed in a letter sent to parents that the occupants of the vehicle were students of Negaunee High School.

The superintendent said that one of the students in the car has died and another is still receiving medical care. At this time there is no update on their condition.

The letter from the Negaunee School District can be read below:
