MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette City Commission approved GEI Consultants Monday night for an environmental review for the mouth of the Dead River.
The Michigan Department of Transportation grant application for the $2.3 million project was approved by the City of Marquette to remove and replace the sand bar at the mouth of the Dead River adjacent to Clark Lambros’ Beach, and the LS&I ore dock.
Once the sand is removed, most of it will be moved to help nourish the Lake Superior shoreline along Lakeshore Blvd between Hawley St. and Fair Ave.
Any remaining material would be placed at the disposal site in the LS&I railyard. This project is projected to start in the spring and summer of next year.
