Michigan’s local and state lawmakers asked President Biden for a major disaster declaration in Ostego County after the tornado in Gaylord on May 20.
Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow were joined by Rep. Jack Bergman in support of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s requests for the disaster declaration.
The lawmakers submitted the request in a letter Wednesday asking for swift action from the President.
A major disaster declaration would bring federal funding to Gaylord’s rebuilding efforts and to residents affected by the tornado.
The letter stated that community’s path to a full recovery requires this disaster declaration.
