Northern Michigan Univeristy (NMU) alumnus and former professional heavyweight boxer DaVarryl Williamson was recently inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
Williamson earned a Master’s degree in administrative services from NMU in 1998 while training for the 1996 summer games at the former U.S. Olympics education center.
During the boxer’s time at NMU, he won two Golden Gloves national championships and three consecutive U.S. Amateur championships.
Williamson’s professional career ran from 2000 to 2014 with a record of 27-8 with four title fights.
The hall of famer opened a successful boxing gym and runs a non-profit for at-risk kids in Englewood, Colorado.
Colorado’s Sports Hall of Fame is located inside Denver Broncos Empower Field at Mile High.
