MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Manistique’s business community is gearing up for a full weekend of fun ahead of Labor Day.
New House Junction will kick off the festivities on Friday, September 4, at 3 p.m. Located at 218 Oak Street, the lot will be filled with food trucks, live music, raffles, and family-friendly activities. Participating food vendors include Iron Hoss Kitchen, The Boppin’ Betty, Kayla’s Top Tier Taste, Whitefish on Wheels, Girly Pop, and Toby’s Dog House. At 7 p.m., a car parade will start at Lakeshore BP and make its way down Cedar Street.
On Saturday, September 5, registration for the annual Manistique Merchants Car Show on South Cedar Street will open at 8 a.m. Registration is $25 and can be paid at the Barr Team KIV office. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine, and it is free to attend. Rhino Dyno will offer paid vehicle pulls throughout the day.
At dusk on both evenings, the Highway 2 Community Drive-In Theater will host free movie screenings—“American Graffiti” on Friday, followed by “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Breakfast Club” on Saturday. Gates open at 7 p.m.
According to New House Junction owner Carly Steffan, Labor Day weekend draws both residents and visitors to Downtown Manistique.
“Every year, it gets bigger and bigger and bigger,” she said. “We have a lot of tourists that come here from outside of the state, even. It’s the destination for all the locals too. Manistique is definitely up and coming. When you live somewhere so beautiful, you don’t need to travel for Labor Day; you go ahead and just stay right here. We have all kinds of things to do.”
