ISHPEMING, MICH. (WZMQ) – The City of Ishpeming has received recognition for years of dedication towards the future of its rural development.
Ishpeming was awarded a Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Certification, following 11 years of structual and economic engagement across city leadership, businesses and its residents.
The Michigan Economic Develpment Corporation (MEDC) presented the certification to city staff Wednesday morning at the Ishpeming Senior Center, joined by Lieutenant Governor, Garlin Gilchrist II, who says it take a lot of work from all sides of a community to make something like this happen.
“We all contribute to the success of our communities, economically, culturally, educationally, everything is a team effort,” he said. “I think in our team sports, the biggest team wins.”
City Manager Randy Scholz says even while joining the city staff in 2025, working with colleagues both within Ishpeming and surrounding has pushed the initiative that much further.
“It really took everybody to make this happen,” he said. “I think that’s the purpose in this, to make sure your community is behind the development, which we really have shown.”
Ishpeming is now the 92nd Michigan community to receive this recognition.
