MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Political newcomer Anna Aho Rink has been making the rounds in the central Upper Peninsula, getting to know her voters and learning about the issues that concern most area residents.
A Marquette native, Rink launched her campaign for state representative back in September. She is seeking the democratic nomination and a chance to represent Michigan’s 109th House District in Lansing. A physician assistant and longtime healthcare provider, Rink says protecting access to healthcare, supporting public schools, creating jobs, and addressing housing affordability are among her top priorities. Rink says she will focus on the needs at home rather than party politics.
We are re-centering our focus on the people in our district and not playing into traditional party politics, not playing into corporate PAC money, and all of these big voices that are coming in,” said Rink.
She says her decision to run was motivated by concerns over healthcare access in the U.P. The 109th district seat is currently held by Republican Representative Karl Bohnak.
