ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – For nearly a century, The Mather in Ishpeming has provided guests with a historic venue on the National Register of Historic Places. Now, they continue to expand and grow their operations.
On June 15, The Mather officially opened an all new taproom in the building, a 4,200 square foot space with two rooms and dozens of new tables for guests. Among the new additions, the mather has added a wood-fired oven and a catalogue of 16 beers all dispensed from the bottom of the glass.
“The reception has been incredible,” said Bill Anderson Jr, co-owner of The Mather. “We did a soft opening this previous weekend, and we actually ran out of a few of our beers. 13 of them, to be exact.”
While the building has been around for several decades, this is the first additions made since current owners Bill and Liisa Petersen bought the space in 2022 and renamed the business to The Mather. The lounge officially reopened in 2024. The Mather is coming up on a century of the building’s existence since its first opening in 1931.
