Eight goals against Calvin
MARQUETTE, Mich. — Junior attacker Josie Lakosky is being honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) as the Offensive Player of the Week.
The reigning GLIAC Attacker of the Year and all-region selection played a crucial role in the NMU lacrosse team’s 20-10 and 20-4 wins over Calvin University and Northwood, guiding the ‘Cats and the offensive attack to a 2-0 start to the 2026 season.
In the season opener, Lakosky scored eight goals, the most in a single game in her career, while adding three assists for 11 points. Lakosky followed that performance up with seven more goals and a pair of assists for nine points against Northwood two days later, giving her 15 goals and five assists for 20 points to start the campaign.
Lakosky not only lit up the offensive numbers, but the junior captain was responsible without the ball as well; she scooped 11 ground balls, won 11 draw controls, and caused six turnovers in an all-around impressive weekend.
At the time of writing, Lakosky leads the Division II landscape in goals per game (8.00), points per game (11.00), shots (12.00), and shots on goal (13.00) per game, and is second in free position goals per game (2.00). Lakosky also leads the GLIAC conference in draw controls per game (8.00) and ground balls per game (5.00).
The Wildcats are next at home against the McKendree Bearcats on Thursday, February 19, at 3:00 PM.
