MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week, schools and families across the country are engaging in National School Choice Week. A time dedicated to highlighting the many education options available to students.

From public and private schools to charter, online, and home schooling, this week focuses on finding the best fit for every child. National School Choice Week is being marked nationwide with classroom celebrations, community events, and conversations about education options.

“School choice is a set of policies and an idea that empowers parents to have the flexibility between all those types of education to matchwhat will work best for their kids,” said Shelby Doyle, Vice President of The National School Choice Awareness Foundation.

The annual Awareness Week shines a spotlight on the idea that no two children learn the same way, and families should have access to educational choices that meet their child’s needs.

“We’ve seen states across the country expanding all sorts of different forms of school choice in response to this new energy and desire that families have to be able to customize their kids’ education,” said Doyle.

These options can include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet programs, private schools, virtual learning, and homeschooling. Supporters say school choice empowers parents, encourages innovation, and helps students thrive by matching learning styles with the right environment.

“Having a really clear idea of what’s unique about your kid, that you’re looking for that best match for them, will help you kind of cut through the noise of all the information you’re going to get along the way,” explained Doyle.

According to organizers, National School Choice Week is not about promoting one type of school or another, but about celebrating opportunity and putting students first.
