WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two National Guardsmen were shot near the White House Wednesday afternoon. Officials said the suspect is in custody. Officials said they believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

Officials said it happen near I Street and 17th, which is about a block and a half from the White House.

The West Virginia Governor is walking back earlier comments he made on social media stating the two Guardsmen, who were deployed from West Virginia, had died. He later said they received conflicting statements regarding their condition. Officials said the two Guardsmen are being treated at a local hospital, including the suspected shooter.

President Donald trump is not here in Washington, he is in Florida. We’re told he is being briefed on the situation. He took to social media calling the shooter an “animal” for what they have done.

The Trump administration along with the help of Republican state governors have deployed their National Guard units to DC for a few months to help curb crime. Some of the residents in DC have protested against sending these units to DC.

One woman, who goes by Gonzales, told us she was walking by the intersection where is happened and heard gunshots.

“I was just walking down the street and I heard three guns, three-to-four gunshots, and then I saw people running and [inaudible] so I just ran to the first bar I saw,” Gonzales recalled. She did not see the shooting but she said she the two Guardsmen on the floor. “I was so scared, I didn’t know how to react because I saw a lot of people running.”

Officials don’t believe there are additional suspects.
