Dobert, Hertel named to First Team

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Nine members of the Northern Michigan football program earned spots on the All-GLIAC First and Second Teams, highlighted by First Team selections on both sides of the ball.

FIRST TEAM
The GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year, Noah Dobert also earned a spot on the All-GLIAC First Team after putting together one of the most dominant seasons in program history. His record-setting 406-yard, four-touchdown performance at Wayne State capped a year in which he set NMU single-season marks for rushing yards (1,656) and rushing touchdowns (15). His 150.5 rushing yards per game ranked third in Division II, and he finished among the national leaders in total yardage and yards per carry (6.3). The performance against Wayne State also earned him his third GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor as well as the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week award. Dobert powered an NMU rushing attack that set a new program record with 3,123 rushing yards.

Junior linebacker Jax Hertel earned All-GLIAC First Team honors after anchoring the Wildcat defense. He led NMU with 101 tackles, finishing third in the GLIAC, and also paced the league with 14.5 tackles for loss. His impact extended beyond traditional linebacker production, adding three quarterback hits, six pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a pick-six while starting all 11 games.

SECOND TEAM
Sophomore running back Jahi Wood secured a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team after emerging as one of the league’s best backs. Despite appearing in only eight games, Wood ranked sixth in the GLIAC with 604 rushing yards and fourth in rushing yards per game at 75.5. He added seven rushing touchdowns, sixth-most in the league. He set a season-high with 233 yards and two touchdowns at Roosevelt and played a key role in setting NMU’s new single-season team rushing record with 3,123 yards.

Senior offensive lineman Chris Bornhoeft earned All-GLIAC Second Team recognition after helping anchor a front line that powered one of the nation’s top rushing offenses. Starting in 10 games, Bornhoeft was instrumental in NMU finishing second in the GLIAC and seventh in the nation with 283.9 rushing yards per game, clearing the way for standout performances throughout the season.

Also anchoring the offensive line, Daniel Babcock claimed All-GLIAC Second Team honors, serving as a key piece of an NMU offensive line that paved the way for the Wildcats’ dominant run game. Playing in 10 games, Babcock helped the Wildcats control the line of scrimmage and fuel a rushing attack that finished as one of Division II’s most productive, including multiple record-setting performances from the backfield. It is Babcock’s second straight season earning a nod on the Second Team.

Senior linebacker Mitch Larkin rounded out NMU’s All-GLIAC Second Team selections. He ranked second on the team with 85 tackles, fifth in the conference, and added 6.5 tackles for loss and two pass breakups while starting all 11 games. He moved up to the Second Team after two straight seasons on the Honorable Mention unit.

HONORABLE MENTION
Defensive lineman Jake Price earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention after emerging as a disruptive force up front. Price recorded 35 tackles over 11 games and led the team with five sacks, tied for the conference lead. Price also added a team-high 10 quarterback hits.

Sophomore defensive back Xavier Martinez was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention following a steady defensive season on the back end. Martinez appeared in 10 games and totaled 22 tackles, five pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Murphy Monreal also earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention after producing one of the team’s most impressive breakout seasons. Playing in 10 games, Monreal co-led the Wildcats with two interceptions, tied for seventh in the GLIAC, and ranked third on the team with 49 tackles.
