NEGAUNEE TWP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two years ago, Marquette County built a new emergency operations center complete with a dedicated space for amateur radio.
This weekend, members of the Marquette County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, will join forces with Marquette County to install a permanent high frequency antenna system.
This installation and communications test will enhance emergency readiness, and strengthen county-wide coordination.
“We get winter weather could be widespread power outages where people need assistance, and in those situations, the system could definitely get overloaded, and they could call us in for something. Yeah, there’s a bunch of different scenarios where we could be called in, but I think most likely up here, it’s going to be weather,” said Scott Machalk.
After installing the antenna, hara will begin testing the system in a variety of situations and locations.
