HOUGHTON, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new fall festival has made its way to Houghton. The Canal Colors Festival looks to combine previous fall festivities into one weekend.
Friday evening opened with live music and a Plaidurday celebration at the Keweenaw Brewing Company. On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., the Keweenaw Color Run will make its return, followed by a family-friendly fall fest starting at 11:00 a.m.
Public Relations Officer for Visit Keweenaw, Jesse Weiderhold, says there’s no better place to hold the events, as the area holds a unique title around this time of year.
“Scientifically, we are the sunniest destination east of the Mississippi in the U.S., from June to August,” he explained. “So what this means is, truly our trees do get the most color in the region. The canal is a little choppy tonight, but when it’s still, you can see the beautiful canal colors.”
Throughout the weekend, each social district cup sold will contribute a dollar towards the Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw.
