MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Kaufman Auditorium, the Marquette Symphony Orchestra will hold its first concert in its lineup of the 2025-2026 season.
The show will begin with George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue,’ welcoming accompaniment from renowned pianist, Jeffery Biegel.
Two other jazz-like pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich will follow, including ‘Tahiti Trot,’ and ‘Suite for Variety Orchestra No. 1.’ These songs will feature Marquette and Negaunee high school string students to play along.
Director Octavio Más-Arocas says in past years, the collaboration has been a great experience for students, and the perfect way to begin the MSO season.
“We’re so excited to share the stage with young people,” he said. “We have them side by side with professionals, it’s going to be a very exciting way to start the 2025-26 season.”
Following Saturday’s show, Jeffery Biegel will perform a solo piano concert at Reynolds Recital Hall on Sunday at 2 p.m.
