MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – There is a significant need for substitute teachers throughout the country, and here in the U.P. is no exception. Due to this shortage, the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency is holding a drop-in workshop for those interested in becoming a substitute teacher or a member of support staff.
The workshop can get you started in the role of a substitute teacher by helping with the application process, qualifications, documents you may need, scheduling, and compensation information.
Depending on the district, there are many roles available, including teacher, paraprofessional, office staff, and custodial services. In-person support will be on hand, outlining all the options available as a substitute.
“You’re going to see a lot of openings that way. I would say you could probably work four to five days a week as a substitute, as long as you’re willing to choose different districts, that’s obviously one of the things, and be willing to take the positions that the schools need,” said substitute recruiter Jamee Gobert.
The drop-in workshop will take place on Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm at the MARESA Central Office, located at 321 E. Ohio Street in Marquette. Walk in anytime; no appointment is needed.
