Poll Shows Ukrainians in Favor of Negotiations to End War, Reversal of Feelings Since the Start of Conflict

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New Gallup polling shows that Ukrainians are now more eager to end the war through negotiations, rather than fighting until the end. Many believe either way, it’s unlikely the war will end anytime soon.

Overnight, Russia deployed another large-scale drone attack. Reports suggest the targets aimed at depleting Ukraine’s air defenses. More than three years into the war, new polling shows support from Ukrainians wanting to fight until victory has dropped significantly since the early days of the conflict. According to a Gallup poll, about 70 percent of Ukrainians now favor a negotiated way to end the war as soon as possible comapred to 24 percent who favor fighting until victory. It’s almost a complete reversal from when the war began in 2022.

According to the poll, the change comes as diplomatic efforts gain new traction. As early as next week, President Trump could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This would be the first time the pair have met since Trump’s return to office. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared on social media “the United States is determined to achieve a ceasefire, and we must jointly support all constructive steps.”

The Kremlin dismissed the idea that there would be a three-way meeting between the US, Ukraine and Russia. The President now says Putin doesn’t have to meet with Zelenskyy in order for him and Putin to meet.

“They would like to meet with me and I’ll do anything to stop the fighting,” said Trump on Thursday.

Details of that potential meeting are still limited. Even with these talks, polls show Ukrainians are skeptical active fighting will end soon.
