ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week, Bay College students are raising money to support local Special Olympics athletes.
The Bay College and Lake Superior State University Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) is hosting its annual “Chain of Love” fundraiser. For $1, community members can purchase a link, write the name of a loved one on it, and add it to the growing chain.
All proceeds will go to the Local Area 1 Special Olympics program to cover the cost of uniforms, equipment, and travel.
“It’s just trying to spread love around,” said fundraiser champion Grace Wiles. “It’s great.”
The “Chain of Love” fundraiser began on Monday. By Wednesday morning, the chain was 363 links strong. By the time the fundraiser concludes on Thursday, Wiles expects to hit or exceed the BPA’s goal of 500.
“It’s really important for me because it’s such a great cause,” she said. “Raising money for them makes me feel really good. I think it helps the community feel good as well to be able to donate to this type of program and be able to have this program in our area.”
BPA students will be accepting the last “Chain of Love” donations at the Escanaba campus HUB on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations can also be made online by clicking here.
