MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Alger Regional Educational Service Agency held a special Santa Clause experience at their offices in Marquette on Wednesday and Thursday.
Children who were more comfortable with a quieter and less frenetic environment were able to visit Santa one-on-one in a calm, comfortably lit atmosphere. Children from pre-k to 18 years of age were welcome to come and visit with him and explain their holiday wishes.
Jessica Pfitzer brought her 4th-grade son Josiah to meet Santa for the first time.
“Without a sensory Santa, we would not be visiting Santa and this is Josiah’s first year visiting Santa. So I don’t really know next year that he will be in a position to want to meet Santa so this is a huge opportunity for us and it also gave me an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself, because I helped set this up,” said Pfitzer.
According to Marquette-Alger RESA officials, this sensory-friendly experience was the work of a parents’ advisory committee that wants every child to have the opportunity to meet Santa in an environment that is comfortable for the child.
