ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Delta County theatre group is presenting its Christmas present to the community this week.
Players de Noc will perform an audio production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol on Friday, December 20. The performance will air as a radio show on WDBC and WYKX on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The public is invited to watch the recording for free at the Bonifas Theater. Director Kathy LeDuc says it’s a treat for the audience and a great way for newcomers to give live performance a try.
“We have two rehearsals, then we do the production, and everyone has scripts in hand,” she explained. “It’s a nice opportunity for anyone who just wants a taste of theatre or they don’t have time to do a whole big show.”
To bring each scene to life, the audience will be invited to participate through cue cards. A foley artist will also use creative props to produce sound effects.
“Instead of using taped sound effects—sometimes we’ll have a bell or something that’s run from the booth—this show, we do it live,” said LeDuc. “There’s a bell on the sound effect table and somebody will ring it. There’s a door and somebody will open and close it. There are shoes, something masquerading as a coal scuttle, and of course when Jacob Marley comes in, there’s got to be chains. Come and enjoy it! It’s a nice way to spend a Friday evening.”
Doors for the live reading of A Christmas Carol will open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. For updates on the radio broadcast schedule, follow the Players de Noc Facebook page.
