WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tuesday, Senate Democrats finalized their leadership team for the 119th Congress.
Democratic senators unanimously voted for Senator Chuck Schumer (D- NY), the current majority leader, to serve as their leader for another two years. Schumer has served as leader of his caucus since 2017.
“I am honored and humbled to be chosen by my colleagues to continue leading Senate Democrats during this crucial period for our country,” said Schumer in a statement Tuesday. “Senate Democrats are ready to get to work for you, the American people,” he added.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D- MN) was promoted by her colleagues to serve as chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. With the new position, Klobuchar will be the third ranking Democrat in the Senate, replacing Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D- MI) who is retiring at the end of the current term.
Democrats will be in the minority at the beginning of the 119th Congress. Members in both chambers will be sworn-in early January.
