MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Entry is open for the Marquette Board of Light and Power’s annual Christmas light contest.
The contest is broken into four size categories, “Lighting the Way” which is the largest category, “Child’s Bright Delight” which is a large category, “Frosty’s Favorite” which is a medium category, and “Elfin Magic” which is a small catagory.
Displays will be judged based on criteria like theme, organization, and brightness.
According to the BLP the contest has been going on for around 40 years now.
The lighting contest Coordinator and BLP Manager of Administrative Services Matt Zavislak said the community is what has kept the contest alive for so long.
“The community really enjoys it and we enjoy being able to provide that service to let everybody know where the lighting displays are in town,” said Zavislak. “And make sure that we shine some light on all these people that put the extra effort in during the holidays to make the community a brighter place and their neighborhoods.”
The deadline for entries is December 6th.
