MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette City Commission has new look, with the addition of newly elected commissioner Cary Gottlieb and longtime commissioner Jenna Smith leaving office due to term limits.
Gottlieb and current commissioner Jermey Ottaway won their respective seats in last Tuesday’s election. Gottlieb, a Marquette physician, and the current medical examiner for Delta County garnered the most votes in the five candidate race with Ottaway winning his seat after being appointed to the commission two years ago. Both Gottlieb and Ottaway were sworn in during tonight’s meeting. The commission also selected a new mayor in Jessica Hanley, and a new Mayor Pro-Tem in Paul Schloegel. May
“It’s housing. It’s getting people affordable or attainable housing in the city of Marquette, new businesses to the city of Marquette and getting more jobs for people. It is the same things that we’ve been facing, all along,” said Mayor Hanley. With different climate change initiatives and making sure that we’re moving forward with carbon initiatives and things like that.”
It was pointed out by outgoing mayor Sally Davis that this commission now has the rare distinction of having members representing all decades. With commissioners in their Twenties all they way to members in their Seventies
