Five different scorers for NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU women’s soccer team brought its win streak to three straight, defeating the Parkside Rangers 5-0 on the home pitch.

Five different players scored for the ‘Cats, led by both Brooke Pietila and Molly Pistorius with a goal and two assists.

Maria Storm, Calihan Bearden, and Ashley Koch all scored, with Hannah Kastamo and Alyse Daavettila both recording assists.

Sally Patton made three saves in 59 minutes played. Jillian Thompson subbed on, making two saves in 31 minutes of action.

The Wildcats outshot the Rangers 26-10 with 17 on target to five. The ‘Cats also paced the game in corners, 7-2.

NMU now moves to 11-3-2 overall and 9-2-1 in conference play. The ‘Cats next see action next weekend, when the team travels to Allendale for a match that could determine who sits atop the conference come the end of the season.

How it Happened
The action began with a beautiful sequence involving Molly Pistorius, Hannah Kastamo, and Brooke Pietila. Pistorius delivered a stunning cross into the box, rebounding perfectly into Pietila’s path. With precise timing, she struck the ball into the back of the net, putting NMU ahead with just 13 minutes left in the first half.

As the second half began, Pietila continued to shine. Just a few minutes in, she took a corner kick that found the head of Maria Storm, who powered it home for a quick goal, extending NMU’s lead.

Pietila’s corner prowess was on display again shortly after. This time, the ball reached Molly Pistorius, who managed to get a touch on it. Calihan Bearden then connected, launching the ball bar down and into the net.

As the game progressed, Pietila demonstrated her vision by sending a ball out to Hannah Kastamo. Kastamo skillfully carried it down the right flank before taking a shot. Molly Pistorius was there to redirect the effort, ensuring it found its way into the net.

Finally, Alyse Daavettila displayed her playmaking ability with a perfect pass to Ashley Koch. Koch took her chance confidently and struck the ball, ending the scoring with five.
