MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two hikers were rescued from a trail in Michigamme Township early Sunday morning.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7:10 p.m. Saturday about two hikers on the North Country Trail that were overdue. Deputies, along with Marquette County Search and Rescue, were dispatched to the McCormick Wilderness Area to search for them.
Search and Rescue personnel looking around the area south of Lake Raymond, the hikers’ last known location, and the surrounding roads in the area.
Search and Rescue and K-9 Trace found both hikers around 2:40 a.m. a few miles from Lake Raymond. Both were extremely cold and wet but declined medical treatment. The hikers were transported out of the woods by rescue personnel.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reminds all people venturing outdoors to be safe and prepared.
