Yancy leads Tech with 12 kills

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 7-ranked Ferris State on Friday at the SDC Gym. The Bulldogs won 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21 to improve to 10-0 on the season. Tech is 5-5 and 1-2 in the GLIAC.

“I’m disappointed that we lost, but I don’t think we played horribly,” Tech coach Matt Jennings said. “That’s a really good team. They’re undefeated and top 10 ranked for a reason and have a ton of experience.”

The Bulldogs never trailed in the first set and hit .464. Paige Wagner put down five kills for the Huskies on only seven attacks, but Olivia Henneman-Dallape was dominant on the other side of the net with seven kills.

Avery Brown and Brynn Erickson both had serving runs to give Tech a lead in the second. The Bulldogs answered with a 4-0 run to take an 18-16 lead. Olivia Henneman-Dallape found her groove again in the second with seven kills, including three of the final four points for the Bulldogs, heading into the break. Jacqueline Yancy had four kills for Tech in the second.

There were 11 ties and eight lead changes in the third. Ferris closed the match on a 7-1 run to take the straight set win.

Jacqueline Yancy led the Huskies with 12 kills, while Paige Wagner also got into double figures on 10 kills while hitting .421. Meg Raabe added six kills, and Kaycee Meiners hit .556 with five kills. Tess Hayes set the attack with 29 assists, and Brooke Dzwik led the defense with 12 digs.

Olivia Henneman-Dallape had a match-high 22 kills for the visitors, while Kaylee Matt tallied 25 assists and 11 digs.

The Huskies continue a four-match home stand on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Davenport. The first 200 fans to the match will receive a free Michigan Tech spirit T-shirt.
