The Democratic National Convention opens this week in Chicago with delegates from Michigan on hand to see and hear from the new ticket.
WZMQ 19 News will have its Washington Bureau team there to talk with state delegates and focus on their local connections. Rachel Knapp and Brendan Scanland covered the Republican National Convention a month ago and will now do the same with Democrats in Chicago.
The convention will feature Vice President Kamala Harris as she takes the spotlight along with running mate Governor Tim Walz. President Biden and former presidents Obama and Clinton will speak to the convention.
“[Analysts] tell us to be on the lookout for policy platforms next week,” said Scanland.
Knapp predicts the Vice President will work to allow voters to get to know her better and define specific policies she supports.
Meanwhile, Republicans are certain to continue their criticism of the new Democratic ticket and try to focus on immigration and inflation as their core themes.
It’s bound to be a big political week, and WZMQ 19 News will bring you local coverage on air and on digital platforms throughout the week.
