MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, the Marquette Kids Cove are installing the playground equipment for the All Inclusive Playground at Mattson Lower Harbor Park. This playground is an all-inclusive accessible playground made for all.
This playground started when Jonnie Reynolds Miller who was in a wheelchair wanted to make playground equipment usable by all. This playground has a soft base bottom, paved paths to all levels, a center viewing area for parents and caregivers, and each piece has multiple levels of challenges for the kids.
Originally this playground was supposed to be located at Presque Isle Park, so when the previous Kids Cove needed some updating, the Marquette City and Playground for All committee took this opportunity.
“It’s the community they just stepped up, they really really supported us financially on this and there are so many people stopping by and saying how grateful they are for this, there was even a little 3-year-old girl that the parents said she took one look and said astonishing,” said Barb Coleman, Marquette Playground for All Committee.
The playground was meant to open this summer, but with all the equipment being delivered this week the committee is predicting late September. For information on the playground, fundraisers, or future events go to the Kids Cove website.
