IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – Poll workers were encouraged by a stronger-than-usual turnout locally in this year’s state primary election. By early afternoon, 117 voters had already cast their ballots at Bay College, located in Ward 1, Precinct 3, surpassing expectations for a primary election day. Mike Day, the precinct’s chairperson, expressed his surprise and satisfaction with the voter participation.
“So far we’ve got 117 voters, that’s a very good turnout for this time of day for a primary election,” Day noted. “Usually, the primary doesn’t see quite the turnout you have for a general election, but I would have to say this turnout has been very positive.”
Rick Sherman, a local voter from Iron Mountain, also voiced the importance of participating in the voting process, urging the community, especially young people, to make their voices heard. “It’s important for everyone to vote. It’s a privilege and our right, and if you don’t vote, you don’t have anything to complain about, so get out and vote,” Sherman said, emphasizing, “People just get out there and vote in the presidential election. It’s very important.”
Day, looking ahead to the upcoming general election, reminded voters, “Well, if you don’t vote, you can’t complain. Vote for something, vote for somebody.” The final results from the polls in Iron Mountain are expected between 9:00 and 9:30 Central Time.
