MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, the Marquette City Band is nearly wrapping up its summer summer series of outside concerts. The last performance is next week August 8th at 7:30 p.m. Presque Isle Park.
The Marquette City Band played a mix of international and national music with songs from the Netherlands, France, Germany, and the United States for the concert. In the performance Dr. James Strain, a percussion professor at Northern Michigan University, was featured playing the xylophone during the concert.
“Is giving the community people an opportunity to continue playing. A lot of them started in band in grade school and continued maybe through high school and up through college even as adult musicians, providing them the opportunity” said Dr. Steve Grugin, Marquette City Band Director.
To participate in next year’s Marquette City Band, auditions will be posted in Spring of 2025, for more information on auditions or other events go to the Marquette City Band website or Facebook.
