NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Negaunee Public Library is closing for a few days to remove harmful materials in the building.
The Negaunee City Council unanimously approved emergency asbestos removal and abatement in the library. Library director Jessica Holman said the library will be closed Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 for the procedure. The library may also be closed part of Monday, July 22 for new carpet installation.
Holman said the library has been in the process of installing new carpet. She said the old carpet is glued to tiles that contain asbestos, and the tiles were breaking as the old carpet was being pulled up.
The library’s temporary closure will not impact Alan’s Magic Show, which will be held Monday, July 22 at 6 p.m. outside the library, weather permitting. A rain location, if needed, will be announced on the library’s Facebook page.
This is a developing story. WZMQ will provide updates.
