My favorite season is coming early this year! Wild blueberries will be ready to pick this weekend. Tonight, on What’s UP with Megan, come with me to Grandma Jane’s house to check them out!
As summer reaches its peak, residents and visitors of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are gearing up for blueberry picking! Each year, the arrival of blueberry season brings excitement to those who have eagerly awaited the opportunity to venture into the wilderness and gather these succulent berries.
Whether you’re a seasoned picker or a first-time visitor, I’ll share with you three tips that my Grandma Jane taught me:
One: A good picker never reveals their picking spot, but I’ll tell you my spot is where my grandma shot one of her bears.
Two: Pick carefully and avoid disturbing green blueberries so they can continue growing.
Three: Wood ticks are terrible this year. Wear long pants, tuck them into your socks, wear boots, use bug repellent, and pray— because I found a tick in my ear this weekend.
Finally, blueberry season isn’t just about picking berries… it’s about singing as loud as you can with your family to keep the bears away, connecting with nature, and enjoying the bounty that our land provides.
So, this weekend, get out, pick berries, and have fun!
