IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The completion of the new regional cancer care center at Marshfield Medical Center, Dickinson, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce. The event, which marked the completion of the new regional cancer care center project which broke ground last summer, drew a large crowd and featured speeches from medical staff and state legislators. Attendees were offered guided tours of the state-of-the-art facilities, and Marshfield staff expressed gratitude to Gundlach Champion and the design team for their dedication to the project.
Dr. Gustavo Morel, an oncologist at the center, highlighted the community’s support and the center’s commitment to providing world-class cancer care locally. “I think it basically exceeded our expectations, but it’s not surprising in the sense that I’ve been living in this community for close to 25 years,” he said. “I’m not particularly surprised at the commitment of the community in supporting these new services.”
Dr. Morel, one of the oncologists, shared his excitement about the completion of the building and the upcoming transition. “Well, the building is completed. We’re very excited to move in and to start providing care at the new building, hopefully next week,” he said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Morel discussed the center’s vision for cancer research. “We’re starting the paperwork for that. We are hoping towards the end of the year we’re going to be able to start enrolling patients in clinical trials. The Marshfield Clinic has a vast portfolio of clinical trials, so we’re going to be able to offer those to patients who are deemed appropriate for them,” he explained.
The new center aims to make a significant impact on local cancer care and commits itself to providing world-class cancer care locally. “Providing everything here is our goal, and while patients may still need to travel occasionally, I think this will help significantly,” Dr. Morel said, reflecting on the importance of local care for the community.
