MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – In March, a Schoolcraft County tortoise escaped from his home, returning about 72 hours later. Now, he’s set to star in a book about his adventure.

Yoda’s Yooper Adventure tells the story of Yoda the tortoise, who went missing on March 11. According to Yoda’s owners, Sarahjean Adolphus and Alicia Vargo, the book details his journey of getting lost in the woods, searching for a way back to his family, and meeting friends along the way.

“Someone in the community made a joke, ‘You should write a book about his story,’ and I was like, ‘Haha!'” said Adolphus. “After that, I thought maybe I’d give it a try. Showing the community what we thought he was going through and making it into a children’s book might bring something back to the community and share a bit of his life and what we went through as a family.”

The all-ages book is written by Adolphus and edited by Vargo, with illustrations by local artist Mary Weber. It also includes a dedication page for everyone in the community who helped bring Yoda home.

“I just hope that the people in the community see that we appreciate their kindness in looking for Yoda,” Adolphus said. “A big ‘thank you’ to everyone who was there for him during those 72 hours and beyond.”

On Saturday, July 6, Yoda will meet fans at his book launch at the Adolphus’ nonprofit storefront, Power of 10 Foundation, located at 205 South Cedar Street in Manistique. Power of 10 Foundation is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but meet and greet hours may be extended if there is a large turnout. Copies of Yoda’s Yooper Adventure will be available to purchase, and additional copies can be ordered if the book sells out. Click here for more details.
