MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, June 14, Manistique is celebrating the start of a new season with an event for the entire community.

The first Summer Street Party of the year will take place downtown from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Manistique Merchants, Limestone Federal Credit Union (FCU), and Schoolcraft Tourism and Commerce.

“We started the Summer Street Party a couple of years back that has gotten more traction over the years,” said Magan Peterson, treasurer of the Manistique Merchants and Chief Lending Officer for Limestone FCU. “It’s a Friday night that’s fun for the whole family downtown.”

Held in Manistique’s Social District, attendees can enjoy drinks from local establishments while listening to live music, playing bean bag toss, and exploring downtown shops and restaurants, which will be open late for the occasion. There will also be activities for kids. Organizers encourage the community to invite friends from all over to attend.

“We all just love our community,” Peterson said. “We want to see it grow and thrive, and I think Manistique’s really been kicking off some great summer entertainment and fun lately. We just want to keep the momentum going and keep the excitement downtown and support our local businesses, because that is what we are all about at our core.”

Manistique has a full schedule of events planned in the coming months, including Folk Fest July 12 -13 and another Summer Street Party in August.
