NEGAUNEE Mich. (WZMQ) – The annual Goof Fest is happened this Sunday in Negaunee at Smarty’s Saloon bar to remember local legend Alan “Goofus” Ammesmaki.
“Goofus was a great friend of mine and a great friend to the community, one and all,” said Scott “Smarty” Soeltner, Owner of Smarty’s Saloon Bar. “He blessed all of us with his charm and his presence.”
After being a cheerleader for Negaunee High School, Goofus graduated but never lost the love for his community. Following Goofus’s passing in 2018, the Goof-Fest was created to honor him and celebrate his life.
“He was such a lover of music, a lover of sports and a lover of his community and his school,” says Loorie Hayes, long time friend of Goofus. “So we got together as his friends to keep his name alive.”
Goof Fest was held from 2-5 p.m. with a grand turnout. The fest was filled with people all ready to sing some of Goofus’s favorite karaoke, have some fun and donate to a good cause.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the Alan “Goofus” Ammesmaki Negaunee High School Scholarship where two seniors will be awarded the scholarship.
